GBV Hub

The SBCWC’s GBV Hub is a pivotal initiative dedicated to offering a comprehensive and coordinated response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The Hub serves as both an educational resource and a collaborative platform, bringing together various stakeholders to address the needs of GBV survivors and the wider community. By educating community members, particularly First Responders, and fostering partnerships with existing institutions, the GBV Hub works to ensure that survivors receive the support and protection they need in a timely and effective manner.

Key Components:

Education and Training:

Target Audience: The Hub focuses on educating community members, with a special emphasis on First Responders, who are often the first point of contact for GBV survivors. This includes training medical service providers, police, security forces, and other key players on how to effectively respond to GBV cases.

Awareness Raising: The educational efforts extend to the broader community, aiming to increase awareness about GBV, its causes, and its consequences. This knowledge is crucial in empowering individuals and communities to recognize, prevent, and respond to instances of GBV.

Partnerships and Collaboration:

Coordination of Stakeholders: An effective response to GBV requires the coordination of multiple institutions and professionals, including medical services, law enforcement, judicial systems (both formal and traditional), NGOs, schools, psycho-social service providers, and religious leaders.

Harmonized Efforts: The GBV Hub fosters collaboration among these stakeholders, ensuring that they are linked and work in harmony. This coordinated approach is critical in providing survivors with comprehensive support and in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by GBV.

Survivor-Centric Approach:

Navigating the System: One of the Hub’s primary concerns is making sure that GBV survivors can successfully navigate through the often complex and confusing network of services and institutions. The Hub seeks to simplify this process, reducing the risk that a victim will “fall through the cracks” and ensuring that they receive consistent and holistic support.

Comprehensive Support: The goal is to engage a wide range of essential stakeholders in a comprehensive community strategy, ensuring that survivors receive the necessary support and protection at every stage of their recovery.

Addressing Underlying Issues:

Challenging Harmful Beliefs: Beyond providing immediate support, the GBV Hub also focuses on addressing the harmful values and beliefs that underpin Gender-Based Violence. By fostering a shared understanding of GBV among community members and stakeholders, the Hub aims to bring about long-term cultural and social change.

Community-Wide Strategy: The Hub encourages the development of a community-wide strategy that involves all relevant parties in the fight against GBV. This strategy is designed to create an environment where GBV is recognized, condemned, and actively combated by all members of society.
