Empowering Women through Creativity: The Beading Project at The Saartjie Baartman Centre

In a powerful partnership, Black Betty and the Kolisi Foundation have united to make a lasting difference in the lives of survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV). Their collaborative initiative, The Beading Project, was introduced at the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women & Children, bringing a unique blend of jewellery expertise and community empowerment.

Crafting a New Future

The Beading Project was designed to give GBV survivors a tangible pathway toward healing, financial independence, and long-term skills development. Through the creation of handcrafted beaded bracelets, survivors are not only empowered with a source of income but also provided with a therapeutic outlet for creative expression during their recovery journey.

Each bracelet tells a story. The beads are carefully strung by survivors, symbolizing moments of strength and healing, with 100% of the proceeds returning directly to the women and the Saartjie Baartman Centre. This initiative supports their journey toward rebuilding their lives, helping to secure both emotional and financial independence.

The Sentiment Collection: Jewellery with Purpose

Now available for purchase, The Sentiment Collection features six beautifully crafted bracelets, each with a distinct purpose: empowerment, mindfulness, love, happiness, protection, and truth. Adorned with Sterling Silver or 9kt Gold Vermeil beads and semi-precious stones, these bracelets serve as meaningful reminders for the wearer to connect with these values daily.

With every bracelet sold, supporters are helping to uplift survivors, offering them both a source of pride in their work and an opportunity to forge a better future.

Black Betty x The Kolisi Foundation: A Shared Vision for Change

Since October 2022, Black Betty, a female-owned jewellery brand, has joined forces with the Kolisi Foundation, with a common goal of addressing the widespread impact of GBV in South Africa. Recognizing the profound challenges faced by women and girls in the country, this partnership reflects a deep commitment to creating real change.

Together, Black Betty and the Kolisi Foundation are determined to foster community support, using their platforms to raise awareness, funding, and essential resources for survivors of GBV. Every purchase from Black Betty not only celebrates the art of jewellery-making but also contributes directly to the Kolisi Foundation’s mission to uplift women and create a safer future for them.
